Prepositional Poetry
Teacher Instructions
During a study of
prepositions and prepositional phrases, a fantastic activity to
assign to the students is that of creating their own poems.
Using a list of
commonly used prepositions - like those found on this page - have
the students choose a topic and begin to write. Instruct them to
begin each new line of the poem with a preposition.
The most
difficult aspect of this activity is using the prepositions
correctly. You will have to evaluate each line to see if the word
the student has chosen is indeed being used as a preposition and not
as an adverb. The students soon learn the difference on their own.
