PROGRESS AS PROMISED
On Thursday August 29th, the new bus arrived at the Transportation Department. The bus bid was awarded to TDK LLC which was purchased for $25,000 under the projected cost. Hopefully this is the beginning of a multi-year transportation safety plan to upgrade our outdated transportation vehicles.
The benefits of purchasing new school buses are defined by many in the following three areas. (Quoting from various sources)
1. Longer Usable Lifespan - This is because it has more usable miles before it will require maintenance. Additionally, the newer a vehicle is, the fewer repairs it typically needs until it begins to rack up miles and endures exposure to hazardous conditions. Newer buses have improved durability.
2. Decreased Number of Safety Risks - Newer vehicles also come better equipped with modern safety features, which ensures the optimal protection of students during the ride. Overall, these new features increase the reliability of a bus and help the driver and parents trust that it will perform well no matter what the road throws their way.
3. Cost-Effective Maintenance - Since new buses don’t need maintenance as often as used models do, they’re also more cost-effective. Even when they do need to have work done, the repairs also aren’t as extensive or expensive. While new vehicles may be a more costly investment outright, you’re saving money in the long run.
Special thanks to all the district employees who work so hard to make this happen and the taxpayers who partner with us to fund student safety. Your efforts do not go by unnoticed.
