STOP means STOP, right?
Well, you'd be surprised at how many people don't! Every day across the U.S., careless drivers pass school buses, despite the fact that all 50 states have laws requiring drivers to stop for a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing and stop signal arm deployed.
Based on a national survey of bus drivers by the NASDPTS in 2023, it is estimated that there were more than 43.5 million illegal school bus passings in the U.S. during the 2022-23 school year.
Please- do not ever pass a school bus that is stopped en route- students may be preparing to cross the road. Please teach your teen drivers to never pass a school bus, and to always stop at least 10 (ten) feet away from the bus.
Remember: If in doubt, STOP! Arrive alive and don't risk lives!
