We would like to provide you with information about the upcoming solar eclipse occurring Monday, April 8, 2024. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientists predict that our region will experience the eclipse sometime between 2:00pm and 4:30pm on Monday, April 8, 2024. The exact times will vary, depending on location.
Based on the predicted timing of this event, we are not planning to alter our school day schedules.
As you may know, a total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. This exciting scientific and educational event will not occur again for many years.
We all know the intensity of the Sun on any particular day can cause damage to the eyes if you look directly into it. The same is the case during an eclipse; even when the Sun is obscured during the partial phases of a solar eclipse, the remaining crescent Sun is still intense enough to cause harm.
Undoubtedly, the media will intensify over the next few days; therefore we are providing you and your family information and interesting resources available below from NASA.

LASD Superintendent Search Update - Community Survey Results
The Littlestown Area School District (LASD) Board of Director’s search for the next superintendent of schools is underway! The Board of School Directors approved a contract with DiRocco Education Consulting LLC: Keystone Superintendent Search Service to conduct a confidential search for the next superintendent. The District’s website provides information about the search process.
Integral to the process of identifying the next superintendent is the necessity of confidentiality. To attract a wide field of experienced candidates, only the Board of Directors and the search consultants are privy to information about the applicants.
The way in which the community and staff were engaged was through the use of a survey. The Board of Directors greatly appreciated the input of those who completed it. Our March Employee Spotlight is Lora Mace, Director of Transportation! Lora started her career with us in 2017 as a substitute driver. She quickly worked her way into administrative assistant to transportation and in 2020 she accepted the challenging, but rewarding Director role. Safe transportation is Lora's top priority each day while she also juggles state reporting for mileage and fuel consumption, multiple routes to out of district programs, as well as all of our athletic and extracurricular activities. She noted a few of her drivers have been labeled "Lucky Charms" to our athletic teams. Lora and her crew work tirelessly to ensure our students are well taken care of and feel special. Thank you for your exceptional dedication to our District, our students, and our community!
